Statutory Assessment Service (KS1 & KS2)

Why use this service?

The Education People, on behalf of Kent County Council, offers comprehensive support for Key Stage 1 (Phonics) and Key Stage 2 statutory assessment processes. Our service ensures full compliance with all statutory requirements, providing academies, free schools, and participating independent schools with the expertise and resources needed to successfully navigate assessment and moderation.

To select Kent as your statutory assessment provider, you must purchase the Statutory Assessment Service (KS1 and KS2) for the academic year 2024-2025.

What is included?

  • Expert guidance: Benefit from a team of knowledgeable advisers available via email and telephone to address queries regarding teacher assessment and statutory testing.
  • Regular updates: Receive newsletters covering:
    - advice on the Phonics Screening Check (where applicable)
    - guidance on securing and delivering optional KS1 and statutory KS2 tests
    - access arrangements and end-of-key-stage teacher assessment.
  • Professional development: Gain access to three assessment network meetings for school assessment leaders.

Monitoring visits

Local Authorities are required to conduct unannounced monitoring visits for SATs and Phonics Screening Checks to ensure compliance with guidelines.

What to expect during a monitoring visit

  • Verification of secure handling of test materials.
  • Observation of test/check administration.
  • Review of documentation exchanged with the LA or STA.

There is an additional fixed cost for schools selected for moderation.

Key Stage 2 moderation

Selected schools will receive KS2 moderation visits in June 2025 to validate end-of-key-stage writing assessments. Costs for this are based on cohort size.
