Disability Confident

Disability Confident is a government scheme designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions. It replaced the previous Two Ticks Positive About Disabled People scheme.

The scheme is voluntary and has been developed by employers and disabled people’s representatives. The Disability Confident scheme has three levels that have been designed to support organisations:

  • Level 1: Disability Confident Committed
  • Level 2: Disability Confident Employer
  • Level 3: Disability Confident Leader.

The scheme aims to help employers make the most of the opportunities provided by employing disabled people.

The Education People has signed up to the Disability Confident scheme and achieved Level 3: Disability Confident Leader status in 2022. In doing so, The Education People demonstrates its continued commitment to ensuring disabled people are treated fairly and have access to the same opportunities as everyone else.

If you are a company wishing to start your Disability Confident journey our Specialist Employment Service can support you with this. Find out more about the Specialist Employment Service - Support for Businesses here.

For both internal and external job applicants The Education People commits to the following:

  • providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process
  • interviewing applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for the job
  • being flexible when assessing people so disabled job applicants have the best opportunity to demonstrate that they can do the job.

If appointed as a member of staff at The Education People, we commit to:

  • providing an environment that is inclusive and accessible for our staff, clients and customers
  • supporting employees by making reasonable adjustments during employment
  • promoting a culture of disability awareness across the company to support our commitment to the Disability Confident scheme.
