Brief overview

This course aims to assist Year 1 class teachers to move pupils to the age-related standard in writing, where that is appropriate for the children. Teachers will consider the most effective pedagogies and activities to help the children reach their potential, including elements such as supporting handwriting, early spelling and oral rehearsal before writing.

They will also have the opportunity to talk online about some of their own pupils’ writing with teachers from other schools, in order to identify next steps for the children. The focus will be on moving pupils from WTS to EXS.

Learning outcomes

To have a secure knowledge of the age-related Writing standard in Year 1.
Consider your pupils’ problems or barriers to success.
To know and share some teaching strategies which are effective when teaching writing.
Find a way forward from WTS to EXS.
