Interconnectedness & the Importance of Self-Care for Kinsh

Audience: Foster Care
Single session

Brief overview

This workshop explores the concept of Interconnectedness, recognising the meaningful difference kinship carers can make in the lives of the children in their care as they form strong emotional connections with them, helping them feel safe.

It considers the impact therapeutically parenting children who have experienced early life trauma can have on carers’ own emotional health and discusses the importance of self-care and self-compassion. It explores how compassion fatigue (blocked care) arises when we don’t value self-care, the impact this has, and provides hope in the form of effective strategies for carers who feel impacted by this.

Learning outcomes

  • To explore the concept of Interconnectedness.
  • To empower carers to actively prioritise self-care.
