Brief overview

The session is aimed at school-based finance staff who would like to learn how to use a cash flow statement to better understand /highlight if there may be a issue regarding the schools bank account going overdrawn. The Kent County Council  Financial Control No1 states that ‘Schools may not go overdrawn’, therefore, there may be occasions when monitoring of cashflow will be required to ensure there is sufficient funds in the bank account to meet liabilities and avoid going into an overdrawn position.

This session is open to Kent Local Authority schools only.

Although this session is aimed at all finance staff there will be an expectation that delegates attending will have a basic level of knowledge/understanding of school finance.

There will be a presentation covering the following areas:

  • The reasons why a cash flow statement may be needed.
  • How to complete a cash flow spreadsheet.
  • Where to go for advice and support.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session the delegate will:

  • Understand how to use a cash flow spreadsheet to predict possible future issues with cash flow.
  • Use information provided to assist with future financial management and decisions at the school.
