Sustainable Development Team

Take me back to the teams

The Sustainable Development Team is responsible for embedding Education for Sustainable Development into early years practice through a Global Action Programme incorporating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN developed the Sustainable Development Goals for all countries to work towards a better future.

We recognise the importance of children developing empathy and how this leads to fairness, respect and responsibility, however these attributes are just as important for a harmonious society as they are for a harmonious setting. Developing these key attributes in our youngest children, introducing them to the wider natural and cultural world and raising awareness of their ability to effect change can provide the first steps to enabling informed and responsible choices as adults.

The Early Years and Childcare Sustainable Development Team have developed the first national (and potentially international) Early Years Education for Sustainable Development Award enabling settings to gain accreditation whilst practitioners, children and their families receive certification in recognition of their active involvement.

The team were also responsible for the establishment of two Early Years Hubs and an Eco Centre. These venues offer high quality facilities which can be hired for a wide range of training courses and meetings.

The Sustainable Development Team bring a wealth of skills, knowledge, qualifications and expertise gained over many years’ experience in settings, numerous training and development programmes in Kent and the management and delivery of a wide range of national and international projects and initiatives.
