Models and images have been proven to support pupils in developing a secure conceptual understanding. This one hour webinar and additional teacher training PowerPoint will support subject leaders in training staff on where to find high quality resources to support teaching and learning in maths.

This CPD will draw upon the recent guidance that has been provided by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) on ways to use representations and structures in closing gaps. There will be a focus on making the links between the stages of the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach to support in children’s conceptual understanding of mathematics.

Objectives:

  • Identify the main benefits of representation and structure and the best practice in how this is used to support the teaching and learning of maths.
  • Recognise the importance of the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach and how to focus on the links between these stages to support conceptual understanding.
  • To support subject leaders in the professional development of teacher’s knowledge and use of representation and structure in maths.
