KS1 Conference: Every Moment Counts

Audience: Primary
Single session
  • Key Stage 1

Brief Overview

In the past five years KS1 teachers have had to rise to the challenges presented by children with weak language acquisition, poor levels of motivation and concentration and a lack of independence combined with the heavy responsibility of teaching all subjects in the curriculum.

We know that we need to make the most of every moment in school, so why don’t you come and join us for a day of discovery, learning and support to overcome these barriers to learning and refine your teaching toolkit for maximum impact.

We are delighted to be able to welcome Claire Gadsby leading educational trainer and author, who will provide our keynote presentation 'Doing what works': A practical toolkit for boosting engagement and progress for all.

Claire is renowned for providing concrete, practical strategies, and resources that teachers can use immediately back in the classroom.

In addition to this inspiring keynote speaker, delegates will also have the opportunity to attend workshops during the afternoon.

Most Effective Feedback

Teachers will learn how to:

  • provide feedback that doesn't rely on written comments
  • close learning gaps with 10-minute bursts of active feedback in the lesson
  • spark joy and empower pupils through innovative feedback methods such as 'Secret Codes' and 'Purple Prompts'

How to Positively Support Children to Recognise and Regulate Their Emotions

Planning for and supporting young children who struggle with their emotions and regulating their behaviour can be a most rewarding experience; it can also be difficult to know which strategies to use and how to prevent, react and respond to potentially challenging behaviour. With varying and at times increasing needs to manage within your class, how do you ensure that children with social and emotional needs are effectively identified and supported to make sure that ‘every moment counts’?

This session aims to:

  • explore how adult behaviour can help and hinder how children behave
  • discuss and explore effective strategies to use when celebrating positive behaviour and supporting negative behaviour

Continuous Provision in KS1 - Making it Work in the Classroom

During lockdown, James Johnson (Mr J Talks...) facilitated continuous provision webinars to thousands of people online and has since spoken at conferences on this subject. Since then, James' school has hosted over 200 visitors a year to see continuous provision throughout his school.

In this session, James and Steph (KS1 Teacher) will take you through the journey of installing continuous provision into KS1 classrooms and the practicalities of coverage across the KS1 curriculum. They will share their experiences of installing continuous provision in multiple settings and being classroom teachers.

Expect to hear practical tips you can take away with you and experiences that you can empathise with. The objectives of the session will be to talk about their experiences of meeting the demands of the national curriculum, recording learning that takes place in the classroom and installing continuous provision in KS1.

Feedback from last year includes:

'best training I've had in ages.  Really great speakers and so beneficial to my role'
'lots of ideas to use in school'
'informative, relevant and thought provoking'
'fantastic day and excellent speakers'
'more of this please - would love to come next year'

This conference is suitable for senior leaders, teachers, and teaching assistants. Book early to avoid disappointment – places are limited.
