Deputy and Assistant Headteacher Development Programme

Brief Overview

A series of half day sessions run across the academic year providing an opportunity for deputy and assistant headteachers to learn and develop new skills through training, networking with colleagues and discussion around current hot educational topics. Participants will have the opportunity to visit different settings and engage in co coaching opportunities. Each session will be framed by an aspect of the Education Inspection Framework.

Session 3: Behaviour and Attitudes: Everyone’s responsibility

Hot Topic: Recovering Attendance. This training session will explore and evaluate best practice in the recovery of strong pupil attendance, using Local and National research and initiatives.

Sharing: Participants will share their own school’s attendance context with colleagues. They will work with colleagues to design an action plan to improve attendance at their school.

Collaborating: Participants will plan their second school visit, through further exploration of coaching techniques.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop an understanding of educational leadership within local and national contexts and how relationships and partnerships are the foundation of a good school.
  • Use and apply the EIF and research based evidence within the context of different settings.

  • Use and develop self evaluation and improvement planning as a tool to successful leadership.
