An Introduction to the CHIRP Toolkit

Audience: Foster Care
Single session

Brief overview

Supporting Our Young Children to be Confident, Happy, Independent, Resilient and Proud

This workshop will introduce to Foster Carers the CHIRP Toolkit, it will bring Foster Carers inspiration and a rich variety of ideas, strategies, and guidance to enable the children in your home to be Confident, Happy, Independent, Resilient, Proud - in short, CHIRP! We want to motivate everyone working with young children to nurture these dispositions and acknowledge the impact your work has on lifelong outcomes.

Whilst this Toolkit has been produced for the Early Years Sector, the content spans all ages and is as relevant for adults as it is for our youngest children. Following the introduction that shares exactly why we need our children to be CHIRP, each section looks closely at ‘What you Can See’ and ‘Things You Can Do’ to support the development of each of the dispositions, giving a range of practical ideas and examples. All the information is transferable to children, young people, and adults – for instance, when we are looking at a confident child aged 3 to 5 years old who ‘believes in their own abilities and strengths and is excited to try new things’, we would hope to see the same for all our children throughout their educational journey and into adulthood.

Learning outcomes

  • To understand the impact of Foster Carer relationships with children, families and other adults we work with.
