Brief Overview

In The Teacher Standards, one of the key aspects is for teachers to know how to adapt teaching to support pupils’ education at different stages of development. This is an important skill for all teachers to support their pupils and is especially useful in teaching Maths. By understanding how a range of factors can inhibit pupils’ ability to learn, and how best to overcome these, a skilled practitioner understands approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively. This will enable all pupils to make connections in their learning and deepen their conceptual understanding. This process builds towards the independence of pupils and leads to greater success.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop a deep understanding of what is meant by adaptive teaching.
  • Understand how to meet the needs of all by providing carefully constructed adaptations to lessons.
