The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed has committed to telling world leaders about the developments by “Action Partners of the Global Day to Act4SDGs."
The aim of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals is to
“secure a sustainable, peaceful, prosperous and equitable life on earth for everyone now and in the future.”
The Education People in collaboration with Kent County Council and an international lead have developed a new programme to introduce Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to the Early Years and Childcare Sector for the benefit of young children and their families. The award links to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is available nationally and potentially internationally.
The Early Years Sustainable Development Award enables settings to gain accreditation, whilst practitioners, children and their families receive certification in recognition of their active involvement.
The Award comprises an audit tool to be used in the setting, activity booklets for children and their families, training for early years staff and ongoing mentoring support.

The Education People in collaboration with Kent County Council have developed a Global Action Programme to introduce early years settings to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The programme operates on a rolling basis focussing on individual SDG’s providing information, advice and practical activities. This enables early years professionals to raise awareness and introduce the Sustainable Development Goals to pre-school children in an age appropriate way.
In addition to the presentations, activities and networking opportunities early years providers can view a wide range of innovative installations and inspiring displays incorporating ‘living’ and natural materials.
The programme has raised awareness and excitement with Early Years settings in Kent with 100 nurseries already registered providing a potential reach of some 4,000 pre-school children!
