Safeguarding Training For Childminders 2024-25

This E-learning course has been developed by the LADO Education Safeguarding Advisory Service to enable childminders and their supporting staff to understand and carry out their statutory responsibilities as highlighted within the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ (EYFS) 2024 and ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’.

This course explores the specific procedures and support available in Kent, including the Kent Safeguarding Children Multi-Agency Partnership (KSCMP) Levels of Support, Integrated Children’s Services and the ‘Front Door’.

Registered Childminders outside of Kent can access this course, however, they will need to undertake independent research to ensure they understand their own local guidance and processes.

Please note:

  • Your licence for the course lasts until 31 August 2025 and this certificate will be valid for two years from that date.

  • The course should take two to three hours to complete.

  • This course currently reflects the EYFS 2024 guidance that should be followed by Childminders until the 31st August 2025. This course does however address criteria identified in Annex C of the 2025 EYFS, which should be followed from 1st September 2025.

This course is only for eligible/registered Childminders.

  • Understand or revisit and update their knowledge of national legislation, policies and professional practice guidance pertaining to safeguarding children.

  • Explore the local Kent’s child protection procedures, including the liaison with local statutory children’s services, the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) and the local safeguarding partners.

  • Reflect, analyse and improve their own safeguarding practice, including builder safer organisational cultures.

This course will enable registered Childminders to:

  • Understand or revisit and update their knowledge of national legislation and guidance pertaining to safeguarding children.
  • Explore Kent’s specific safeguarding children procedures, including the consultation and Integrated Front Door process.
  • Reflect, analyse and improve their own safeguarding practice.
  • What is meant by Safeguarding.

  • The main categories of abuse, harm and neglect.

  • The factors, situation and actions that could lead or contribute to abuse, harm or neglect and how to work in ways that safeguarding children.

  • Multi-Agency Working and Local Kent Processes.

  • Online/Internet Safety.

  • Safer organisational culture, including implementing safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Lone Working and Allegations.
