Raising Awareness of Gypsy, Roma and Irish Traveller Communities

“Pupils from Gypsy or Roma backgrounds and those from a Traveller or Irish heritage background had the lowest attainment of all ethnic groups throughout their school years…were also most likely to be excluded …to be absent [and] were also far less likely to stay in education after the age of 16 than pupils in any other ethnic group.” Race Disparity Audit October 2017  “Schools have a duty to ensure that no group is discriminated against and that they are challenging any inequality and stereotypes that students encounter. They have a duty to ensure that no one is bullied on the basis of their ethnicity while ensuring that children of all genders are enabled to thrive throughout their education.” Women and Equalities Committee 2018  This E-learning module will support schools to ensure that Gypsy, Roma, Traveller pupils will have equality of opportunity in regard to accessing education by developing an awareness of Gypsy, Roma, Traveller culture, possible barriers to inclusion and how overcome these.
