Online Safeguarding for Early Years Designated Safeguarding Leads and Managers 2024-25

This course will provide Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) and Managers within Early Years settings with a strategic overview of online safety and will help them ensure that their safeguarding practice is in line with statutory requirements and suggested best practice.

Online safety forms part of early years setting’s wider safeguarding responsibilities; it is vitally important that early years setting managers and DSLs are aware of their strategic safeguarding responsibilities to ensure they can safeguard children in their care online.

This course will explore the current statutory guidance to help early years managers and DSLs reflect on their existing practice. The course will explore a range of practical approaches and highlight resources which can be used to support the development of a whole setting approach towards online safety, in line with national guidance.

Please note:

  • Please note: The licence for this course will last until 31 August 2025.
  • The course should take 90 minutes to complete.
  • To raise awareness of how young children may use technology and the potential risks.

  • To explore the expectations placed on early years settings in accordance with national guidance and inspections.

  • Understand the strategic responsibilities of the DSL including developing policies, responding to incidents and referring concerns.

  • Understand the importance of professional behaviour online and the potential implications for staff and settings.
