Basic Safeguarding and Child Protection Awareness HAF Programme 2025/26

This is an introductory safeguarding E-Learning course that can form part of staff induction to ensure staff working with children and young people in Kent in non-education settings such as sports clubs, youth groups etc have the essential knowledge and skills needed to recognise, report and record child safeguarding concerns.

This E-learning course will enable staff to recognise and respond to a variety of safeguarding concerns and explores current national and local safeguarding guidance, as well as best practice policy and procedures. It is important that once staff have completed the training, they find out their own organisations specific child protection policies and procedures.

This course has been developed for organisations participating in the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (Kent), however the content may be appropriate for other non-education settings or organisations working with children and young people, such as sports providers etc. HAF providers will be provided with a code to enable their staff to access this course at no cost.

This course will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

The learnig outcomes of this course are:

  • To recognise potential abuse, harm, exploitation or neglect, and to consider what makes a child vulnerable.
  • Recognise our personal responsibilities to safeguard children and contribute to a safe environment.

  • Be confident responding to child protection concerns and know when to make a referral in Kent.
  • Consider our own professional behaviour expectations.
