Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. With over 100,000 children and adults using it, Makaton has been shown to increase opportunities for personal expression, participation and social interaction.
People of all ages and abilities can benefit from learning and using Makaton, including those with communication difficulties, those who are at an early stage of communication and language development and those who are learning English as an additional language.
The Education People’s Licenced Makaton Tutors can deliver the training courses detailed below.
The Makaton Taster Session is designed for anyone seeking an introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. It is designed to give a brief insight and fun experience of the programme and to encourage participants to access further training as appropriate to their needs and situation. You will learn around 50 signs and symbols.
Course duration: two hours.
Course Options:
You can book this workshop as an individual or as a group. For all options, participants will receive electronic handouts covering the vocabulary they have learnt.
Pricing
The Makaton Workshop Level 1 provides a practical introduction to Makaton for workers, parents and carers who need to use Makaton in everyday situations, at home and/or at work. You will learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1 & 2 of the Makaton Core Vocabulary plus half of the Makaton Additional Vocabulary. The course is very practical and interactive.
Course duration: the workshop can be delivered as two sessions of maximum three hours thirty minutes each or as a full day training session.
Course options:
You can book this workshop as an individual or as a group. Please note that for all options there is an additional charge of £19.85 per person for the Makaton manual required for this workshop.
For virtual workshops only, there is an additional charge of £10 per person to cover the postage, packing and admin for sending the manual to you. Bespoke postage charges are available for shipping to a single location for virtual group bookings.

The Makaton Workshop Level 2 will support participants to build on skills and knowledge gained from attending the Level 1 Workshop. (Please note: it is essential to attend Makaton Workshop Level 1 prior to this course. You will need to provide evidence of your Level 1 certificate). You will learn the signs and symbols for Stages 3 & 4 of the Makaton Core Vocabulary plus the remaining half of the Makaton Additional Vocabulary. The course is very practical and interactive.

Pricing
Using Makaton with Singing is a fun and easy way to learn to use signs with singing for young children. Signing and singing have been shown to encourage the development of communication and language skills and are beneficial for vocalisation, confidence, social skills, emotional development, well-being and self-esteem.
Suitable for those with no prior knowledge of Makaton, Using Makaton with Singing will help you learn up to 100 signs and have fun practising them in songs adapted for different levels of ability.
Course duration: Three hours.
