What is the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme?

The HAF Programme offers families of children aged 4 to 16, who are eligible for benefits related free school meals (FSM), free opportunities to access a range of activities in the Easter, summer, and Christmas holidays. If you are not sure if you are eligible, please use the eligibility checker:

The programme runs for a minimum of four hours a day for four days a week. Each programme will run at different times and may have different ways of delivering the activities, but every HAF Programme is free for eligible children and their families to attend.

When is the Programme Available?

The programme runs for one week at Easter, four weeks over the summer and one week at Christmas.

Each programme will have its own information and booking system. They will require confirmation of your child’s eligibility for benefits related free school meals, schools may help with this.

What Can I Expect When I Go?

Each programme will provide a range of exciting activities and games, and a healthy main meal. In addition, there will be a range of enjoyable and interesting opportunities for children to try new things and make new friends. There will also be ideas about how to source high quality, healthy food cheaply, creative ways to encourage a healthy diet and fun ways to cook.

How Are Children with Additional Needs Included?

All the programme partners are committed to making their programme accessible for a wide range of children. Providing the programme with good information about your child and their needs will enable them to ensure that your child is fully included and can enjoy the opportunities that are offered.

Bewl Water Outdoor Centre

Bewl Water Outdoor Centre are offering a programme that will include taking part in a wide range of outdoor learning activities including:

  • Stand-up paddleboarding
  • Canoeing
  • Sailing
  • Climbing
  • Archery and Axe Throwing
  • Low Ropes and Challenge Course
  • Team-building and Problem-Solving
  • Orienteering and Mapwork
  • Bushcraft and Campfire Cooking
  • Mountain Biking.

The exact programme will be based on the weather, ages and ability of the groups. All activities are led by our fully qualified and experienced outdoor instructors and have been adapted to ensure they are COVID safe, with equipment sanitised before use.

Bewl Water Outdoor Centre is proud to hold an Adventurous Activity Licence (AALS) and Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge.

The programme is free for children aged 8 to 16 years old that are eligible for free school meals (FSM) and there are no extra costs or charges involved.

Dates, Times and Location

The four day sessions will take place during the first four weeks of the summer holidays (26 July to 20 August 2021; usually Mondays to Thursdays). Children can attend any week but cannot switch between weeks so we can maintain consistent COVID-safe bubbles for the entire four days.  Please call our friendly team to talk about available dates for eligible children.

What to Bring?

All specialised equipment will be provided including waterproofs. Children just need to bring warm and old clothes and footwear for the activities that can get wet and muddy, and a change of clothes and footwear to go home in.

Children will be provided with a nutritious lunch, along with healthy snacks and drinks throughout the day.

  1. Please find out more about the Bewl Water Outdoor Centre offer via the information above or letter from your child's school.

  2. Call us on 03000 415 200 to check your child's eligibility for the programme. Please note, you will need to supply proof of a Kent address and eligibility for free school meals (such as Universal Credit award letter).

  3. Once eligibility has been confirmed, talk to our team to confirm the dates you would like your child to attend our sessions at Bewl Water Outdoor Centre.

  4. Complete the booking form below (green button) and return to the address or email address on the form.

  5. Upon receipt of your booking form, we will send out joining instructions to provide more specific information concerning the programme.
