Suzanne Mayes

Suzanne is a dedicated and experienced member of The Education People team, bringing a strong background in governance, leadership support, and school operations to her role. With a career rooted in both education and local government, she plays a key role in supporting and strengthening governance across schools and settings.

Suzanne began her career in education with the NASUWT, before moving into a primary school office role and later supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in a secondary school. Her experience deepened further when she took on the role of clerk to governors during a school federation, giving her valuable insight into the complexities of multi-school governance.

She went on to manage the Leadership and Governance Admin Team at Kent County Council and later as an Area Governance Officer. Suzanne then led the Governor Services team through its transition to The Education People, helping to shape a robust, supportive service for schools and governors alike.

With years of experience working closely with senior leaders, clerks, and governors, Suzanne understands the unique dynamics of education governance. She is especially passionate about supporting the volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to improving outcomes for children and young people. She believes that effective governance is not just about policy, but about people—and takes pride in helping schools build confident, capable governing bodies.
