ParentInfo - new resource from CEOP and the Parent Zone launched
CEOP and the Parent Zone have launched ParentInfo, a resource aimed at bringing together expert, up-to-date content for parents and carers which schools can host on their own websites.
Schools can sign up for the service at ParentInfo.org and start hosting information for parents and carers on your website today!
What is ParentInfo?
ParentInfo is a regularly updated and free feed of information, advice and sources of support that schools can deliver to parents and carers - a pipeline of information they can integrate seamlessly into their own websites and use in other formats.
At a time when schools are under pressure to protect students from online hazards, ParentInfo is a vital resource for engaging and involving parents and carers with easy-to-digest content.
The service aims to deliver information on a whole range of parenting themes, the emphasis being on helping parents and carers develop their children's resilience to the risks and pressures they face in today's world. The articles and videos cover difficult topics about sex, relationships and the internet, body image and peer pressure, as well as broad parenting topics like 'how much sleep do teenagers need?'.
In line with Thinkuknow some of the content covers internet safety, but it all starts from the assumption that young people make little distinction between their online and offline lives and the issues for parents are often the same. The aim is to help parents help their children be discriminating, web-literate and resilient.
Who is behind ParentInfo?
ParentInfo is a collaboration between the National Crime Agency CEOP Command and The Parent Zone.
The ParentZone is a leading provider of information, training and support designed to make the internet work for families, with special emphasis on involving parents and carers.
ParentInfo content comes from leading experts in their fields (Brook, Young Minds, Coram, iRights, Diana Awards, Quilliam, FPA, Beat etc).
Feedback so far
For the last two terms, ParentInfo has been tested in 100 schools across the country. 100% of users said they would recommend it to another school, and there were exceptionally high levels of approval for the content.
The information, support and resources - added to weekly - can be adapted, displayed and distributed online and off to support a schools delivery to their parenting community.
From today schools can register to ParentInfo at parentinfo.org. Just a few simple steps and the content can be live on your school website.
Some comments from users in the test phase:
'A parent actually took the trouble to email the school to say how great the content was - that's amazing!'Sir Henry Floyd School
'There is a wealth of advice provided, from digital to sexual health issues, and it is automatically updated regularly. We have been encouraged by the numbers who have accessed it through the school website. So glad we got involved! In a recent safeguarding inspection, the ParentInfo provision on our website was highlighted as an excellent feature.' Sandfields Comprehensive.
'What children are doing online is a real issue for our parents. Last week we had a Snapchat issue and I was able to send out a newsletter and link to the site's content on Snapchat - it was so helpful to have that at our fingertips. This stuff is absolutely in demand from parents.' Bishop Aldheim's Cof E Primary School.
