Brief Overview
This course will help teachers and teaching assistants to develop knowledge and understanding of Bar Modelling and how it can be used to develop a structural understanding of mathematics and reveal the calculations pupils need to perform.
Please note: The structure of this course will mimic that of the other Bar Modelling courses (KS1 16/10/2023 and Y3/4 19/10/2023). Delegates booking onto all three courses may find some of the content repetitive.
Learning Outcomes
Understand the concept of part-part-whole relationships within the structures of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.
Understand how to make the transition from concrete models, to pictorial representations, to abstract working.
Know how to use the bar model to give a mathematical representation of a word problem.
Know how to use the bar model to solve single and multi-step problems.
