Out of County Schools Designated Safeguarding Lead Refresher 2024-25

This E-learning course has been developed by the LADO Education Safeguarding Advisory Service to enable experienced Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) and Deputy DSLs in schools and colleges to refresh their knowledge and skills and meet the requirement for updated training in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.

This course has been developed for DSLs in schools and colleges outside of Kent. It explores best practice with regards to multi-agency working but does not address specific procedures; DSLs will need to undertake independent research to ensure they understand their own local safeguarding partners guidance and processes.

Please note:

  • your licence for the course lasts until 31 August 2025 and this certificate will be valid for one year from that date.
  • The course should take three to four hours to complete.
  • To remind you of your role and responsibilities as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy DSL in a school or college.

  • To revise and update your knowledge of national legislation and guidance pertaining to safeguarding children.

  • To outline best practice for multi-agency working and referral procedures.

  • To enable you to reflect and analyse the safeguarding practice in your school/college.

This course will enable existing DSLs and deputy DSLs in schools and colleges outside of Kent to:

  • revisit and update their knowledge of national legislation and guidance pertaining to safeguarding children
  • explore best practice with regards to multi-agency working
