Brief overview

The Incredible Adolescent Brain – Therapeutically Supporting Young Adults

With research into the neurobiological changes which happen during adolescence continuing to grow we have a wealth of information to deepen our understanding and inform our approach to supporting young adults. This workshop explores these neurobiological changes and their impact on how young people think and behave, in particular, those young people who have experienced trauma and adversity. It provides host families with an opportunity to explore and reflect on ways to effectively connect and engage with young people using a therapeutic approach which promotes their development holistically

Learning outcomes

  • To increase carers’ understanding of the neurobiological changes specific to young people between the ages of 12 – 24 years and how these impact on young people who have experienced trauma or adversity.
  • To explore therapeutic strategies for connecting and engaging with young adults.
  • To provide space for carers to reflect on the information shared and consider ways of applying this to their everyday life with the young adults in their care.
