Supporting Accurate Writing Assessment at the End of KS2

Audience: Primary
Single session
  • Primary School Improvement Training Package
  • Key Stage 2

Brief Overview

This half-day online workshop will prepare delegates for effective and accurate teacher assessment of children's writing at the end of Key Stage 2, using DfE materials for appropriate exemplification and to support sound judgements. It is therefore particularly useful for teachers who are new to Year 6, or who may not be very familiar or confident in using the Teacher Assessment Frameworks for Writing.

Delegates will have an opportunity to network with others in order to have conversations about their pupils' writing so will need to come prepared with some pupils' books or samples of writing ready to share and discuss.

Learning Outcomes

  • To be familiar with the TA frameworks, being confident to apply them during assessment of writing.
  • To practise moderating using the standards in the TA Frameworks.
  • To guide teachers towards making appropriate judgements.
  • To promote understanding of end of year expectations.
  • To plan next steps in teaching and learning.
