Brief Overview
In Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, one of the key principles is to provide students scaffolds for tasks. This is an important skill for all pupils and is especially useful in teaching maths. By providing all pupils with small manageable chunks and demonstrating guidance from a skilled practitioner, pupils feel supported to make connections in their learning and deepen their conceptual understanding. This process builds towards the independence of pupils and leads to greater success.Learning Outcomes
- Develop a deep understanding of what is meant by scaffolding.
- Understand how to meet the needs of all by providing carefully constructed scaffolds..
- Identify the best practise in teaching when using scaffolding and how to apply this within your own situations.
