Brief Overview
This course will help teachers and teaching assistants to develop knowledge and understanding of bar modelling and how it can be used to develop a structural understanding of mathematics and reveal the calculations pupils need to perform.
PLEASE NOTE: The structure of this course will mimic that of the KS2 courses (Y3/4 19/10/2023 and Y5/6 31/10/2023). Delegates booking onto all three courses may find some of the content repetitive.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the concept of part-part-whole relationships within the structures of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.
- Understand how to make the transition from concrete models, to pictorial representations, to abstract working.
- Know how to use the bar model to give a mathematical representation of a word problem.
- Know how to use the bar model to solve single and multi-step problems.
