Effective Support in the Classroom for Teaching Assistants

Brief overview

A teaching assistant's role is varied and it can be difficult to know which support is best for which situation, whether this is 1:1 or group work. At the heart of this is being able to build build positive relationships and understand the needs of the child.

This course aims to provide teaching assistants with top tips and strategies which they can take back to the classroom and feel more confident in supporting the young people they are working with. We will be covering several key areas including: behaviour management, how to know if a child is making progress and how to break down tasks and instructions to match the needs of the child.

Learning outcomes

  • To gain knowledge and understanding of how to support children in a positive and inclusive way.
  • To gain understanding in how to positively manage and support behaviour.
  • To explore strategies to support learning within the lesson.
  • To understand effective questioning.
