  • Key Stage 1
  • Key Stage 2

Brief overview

This training empowers teaching assistants and class teachers with practical strategies to support all learners in closing the attainment gap and fulfilling their potential. Drawing on the Education Endowment Foundation's (EEF) Five-a-Day approach, this course emphasises the importance of scaffolding, flexible grouping, and the use of technology in the classroom.

Participants will understand the underpinning research for 'scaffolding' as part of the EEF's Five-a-Day approach. They will learn how to provide visual, verbal, and written scaffolds that allow all pupils to access the learning material. The training will also cover how to use scaffolding in a way that reduces pupils' reliance on adult support, fostering greater independence and confidence in their abilities. Additionally, participants will learn how to provide scaffolds in a non-stigmatising way.

The course will also delve into 'flexible grouping' strategies, helping educators group pupils in a way that reduces stigma and promotes peer tutoring. This ensures groups are based on the relative difficulty of curriculum content, rather than being fixed and inflexible.

Finally, the training will explore the use of technology in the classroom. Participants will learn how to utilise tools such as visualisers when modelling work for pupils and how to use technology to help pupils record their learning, for example, through speech-to-text software.

By the end of this training, participants will be equipped with research-backed strategies that can be immediately implemented in the classroom, making learning more accessible and effective for all pupils. This course aligns with Ofsted's emphasis on high-quality teaching, empowering educators to make a meaningful difference in their pupils' learning outcomes.
