Complaints: What School Leaders Need to Know

Audience: Primary, Secondary
Single session
  • Governor Training Package
  • All

Brief overview

If your school is a current subscriber to the Governor Services Training Package, please book a place via your GovernorHub account.

This event is for headteachers and members of the school based Senior Leadership Team only.  This is an opportunity for school based staff to familiarise themselves with the processes and procedures or refresh their knowledge on this statutory policy.  There will be opportunities to talk openly about the issues and concerns that are being faced and look at common themes.  There is a separate training session for Governors – “Complaints - What Governors need to know” available only on GovernorHub.

Parental complaints can be a time consuming and difficult area to navigate.  In this session we will explore DfE best practice complaints guidance, looking closely at each stage of the process.  You will have opportunity to consider unconscious bias, explore scenarios, and develop knowledge to support you moving forward.

Learning outcomes

This course will enable you to have an understanding of:

  • the statutory guidance and requirement for handling complaints
  • the practicalities of investigating a complaint
  • how unconscious bias can affect decision making
  • the role of governors within the process.
