Audience: Primary
Single session
  • Foundation
  • Key Stage 1

Brief overview

Strong Foundations in Mathematics.

In the Early Years Jo Boaler (Stanford University Professor of Mathematics Education) tells us 'Everyone can learn maths to high levels!'

In Dr Denise Kingston's Keynote she will look at 'how' and consider:

  • current research and what it tells us about effective maths practices
  • what effective maths practice looks like in the classroom
  • the maths subscale of the Early Childhood Quality Rating Scale - Emergent Curriculum, using this to inform our discussions
  • some maths activities you may like to try with your children.

The second Keynote will be from Westmeads Community Infant School and bring theory to life by sharing and discussing the building blocks from  EYFS into key stage 1; specifically looking at journaling and working with mastery skills to develop strong number sense and application from the off.
