A whole school approach to bar modelling

Mathematics is an interconnected subject in which pupils need to be able to move fluently between representations of mathematical ideas – national curriculum 2014.  Our strongest mathematicians understand the relationships and links between mathematical concepts.

The consistent use of visual images to cement understanding is key.

The bar model is a highly effective method to support children to visualise the mathematical concepts and support fluency, reasoning and problem solving.

We highly recommend a whole school approach, this continuous professional development (CPD) is suitable for anyone working with children in key stage 1, key stage 2 and the early years foundation stage.

It can be delivered as a half day or twilight session.
