Promoting British values through an inclusive curriculum
Since 2012, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development has been judged under overall effectiveness by Ofsted. For leadership and management to be outstanding, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and, within this, the promotion of fundamental British Values must lie at the heart of a school’s work.
In making this judgement in schools, inspectors will consider how the school prepares pupils positively for life in modern Britain and promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
This practical training session will provide opportunities for delegates to explore context, themes and tools in order to implement British values through an inclusive curriculum, one that will enable pupils to:
- Develop mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith
- Develop an understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law and individual liberty
- Develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.
