E-learning for Teaching Assistants and Support Staff

We are pleased to release a suite of E-learning courses written by our School Improvement and Inclusion team focussed on improving the knowledge and skills of Teaching Assistants and those new to teaching.

The content is designed to embed good practice when teaching and supporting young people in the classroom and can be used as part of an induction programme or contributing to individual continuous professional development plans.

All of our courses have been quality assured by Headteachers, Teachers and Teaching Assistants.  We hope that these can contribute to supporting your excellent classroom practise.

For many adults working in schools, maths is not their favourite subject or the one they feel most confident in, largely due to their own experiences of maths education as a child. Luckily, things have changed and the research points to much better methods of teaching and learning mathematics. Whether you love or loath maths, this course will help you to understand ways you can support the learners you are working with to achieve success and confidence in mathematics.

Questioning is one of the most important skills that those working with students need to develop. Far more than just an ability to ask questions, effective questioning is about understanding what type of question to ask at a given time for maximum impact.

This session develops an understanding of the importance of questioning, examines some theoretical ideas around the topic, and looks at a wide range of different questioning exercises that can be employed with students.
