Virtual Training

Virtual training takes place mostly over Zoom, but also via Microsoft Teams and Go to Webinar – the delivery channel will be agreed at the time of booking. Therefore, to engage with any Early Years and Childcare Service virtual group training, you will need access to a device that can display the agreed software and where you can comfortably see, hear and interact with the trainer/s.  If you are having to share a screen, we would recommend that a maximum of eight people share a computer/laptop screen.  If necessary, we can send you a recording of the training session for you to share with others that work at your setting, but this must be agreed in advance.

This webinar is aimed at new SENCOs or SENCOs wishing to refresh their knowledge. The session provides a good introduction to the one-day SENCO course.
In this session we will be looking at the principles of the graduated approach, sharing information on the SEND code of practice 2015 and the Equality Act 2010. You will also learn about appropriate referral routes to ensure the best outcomes for children and families.

The course contains learning resource materials that can be downloaded in advance of the training, they will be used in conjunction with topics being discussed. You should also have your Best Practice Guidance document available.

Please note that zoom courses are not recorded.

I CAN Early Talk Boost is a pre-school language intervention designed for children aged 3-4 years who have delayed language development. The intervention helps to boost their language skills, helping to narrow achievement gaps between them and their peers (please see below for important information about the resources required to deliver this intervention).

Findings show that, after taking part in Early Talk Boost, children make, on average, 6 months progress after a nine week intervention. This is twice the amount of progress than children not having the intervention, making this an excellent use of the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP).

This online Zoom training course is designed for early years practitioners who will be delivering the intervention in early years settings, and is delivered by qualified I CAN Licensees.

There is an additional cost for resources, details below.

Pre-course information

This section includes important information - please read carefully.

Each setting attending the training MUST purchase an exciting and comprehensive toolkit which includes all the materials and resources required to successfully deliver this intervention. The 'one off' cost of the toolkit is £500, which includes one participant book. All participants will be provided with an electronic version of the participants book.

This training is aimed at experienced practitioners, however settings may wish to book a place for more than one practitioner, or attend as a whole setting.

If you have already purchased the ICAN Early Talk Boost resources, you can book additional practitioners to be trained.

As this is an intervention programme, ICAN do not allow the training course to be delivered without the resources.

Following confirmation of your place you will be contacted by email with details of how to order your resources.

Please note that zoom courses are not recorded.

Training Objectives

To develop participants:

  • understanding of the Early Talk Boost activities and confidence in delivering the intervention
  • knowledge of how to identify children who will benefit from Early Talk Boost and monitor their progress
  • understanding of working with parents to support their child's communication and language development.
