An evening with… using Makaton with singing (West)

Using Makaton with singing is a fun and easy way to learn to use signs with singing for young children. Signing and singing have been shown to encourage the development of communication and language skills and are beneficial for vocalisation, confidence, social skills, emotional development, wellbeing and self-esteem.
There is an additional charge for the manual of £6.50.

Childminders' safeguarding (eLearning)

Basic awareness training and outline of professional responsibilities to safeguard children and promote their welfare. To include an understanding of the Kent Safeguarding Children Board (KSCB) Threshold Criteria and how to make a referral to Specialist Children’s Services and an Early Help Notification. This course is only for Registered/Eligible Childminders.

Childminder training: Safeguarding children and thresholds for integration (South)

Basic awareness training and outline of professional responsibilities to safeguard children and promote their welfare. To include an understanding of the Kent Safeguarding Children Board (KSCB) Threshold Criteria and how to make a referral to Specialist Children’s Services and an Early Help Notification. This course is only for Registered/Eligible Childminders. To attend this course delegates must have written confirmation of a place and be on time (delegates more than 15 minutes late may be turned away and will not receive a certificate but will still be charged).

Introduction to the Local Offer for Early Years Providers (eLearning)

This free and easy to follow course is designed to support registered settings to understand what the term ‘Local Offer’ means, where it comes from and their legal obligations around their responsibility to publish their own Local Offer.
This course will support providers to reflect on their current offer for children and families with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and enable them to write a ‘family friendly’ account of that, using the 12 questions template on the Kent Children and Families Information Service (CFIS) website’.

School readiness (eLearning)

This course aims to support early years practitioners, children centres, schools and parents/carers in their understanding of School readiness and how they can support children with the transition into school.

*Please note the cost of eLearning training is £25 per person x 1 applicant, 1 - 5 people = £20 per applicant, 5 - 10 people £15 per applicant, 10 - 20 people =£10 per applicant.

Walking in the shoes of giants

This workshop will explore what it is like to be two. Practitioners will explore the development of two year olds and attachment and in addition develop their understanding of how to tune into the needs of two year olds with a combination of practical ideas and discussions.

The Kent County Council (KCC) funded offer via The Education People is available to providers of early education and/or childcare within KCC’s geographical boundaries, registered with Ofsted or the Department for Education and/or with KCC to deliver Free Entitlement places; this includes:

  • Private, voluntary and independent group providers
  • Out of school childcare providers
  • Eligible childminders
  • Schools and academies admitting children under four

*Please note that non-eligible childminders can access some elements of the offer only.
